Dear visitors and friends, I hope that you enjoy
these sermons, and find the message to be a
message of Good News for your life. Each
sermon (usually) begins with the Gospel
Acclamation, the reading of the Gospel lesson
for the day, and the sermon. The
first part of the sermon message is delivered
extemporaneously, in the midst of the
congregation, and involves a story, example, or
object lesson that is designed to help the
hearer bring the Gospel message alive in their
daily life. The remainder of
the sermon, usually prefaced by “Dear friends,
grace and peace to you…,” is delivered from
the pulpit.
In
developing the sermon, I use many different
resources including The New Interpreter’s
Bible, Feasting on the Word, edited by David
Bartlett and Barbara Brown Taylor, New
Proclamation, “For Everyone"
Commentaries” by N.T. Wright, Pulpit Resource
by William Willimon, Homiletics commentary,
Preaching Through the Lectionary Year by Fred
Craddock, written works of Barbara Brown Taylor,
Walter Wink, Parker Palmer, Ralph Milton, and
many others, Social and Cultural Commentaries on
the Ancient Near East by John Pilch, Bruce
Malina, and Richard Rohrbaugh, Greek lexicons,
and many good pastor friends who share ideas
about sermon texts.
May
God bless you,
Pastor
Dan
